In It For The Long Hall: Coach Jim Solomon
Jim Solomon became the Head Boys Tennis Coach at Hall High School (West Hartford, CT) in 1975. He's also a retired English teacher at Hall and has positively impacted the lives of thousands of students over the last 50 years. Solomon has gained notoriety for a no-cut policy instituted in the early 1990s. His 2024 team included senior co-captains Kyriakos Papasavs and Alexander Hyams, both student musicians, and both headed to Ivy League schools for college.

Quick question, regarding the swimsuits. Don't the girls have to have a regulation uniform, why are some swimsuits cut differently from others?

Education was setup for middle class white groups…one of the many nonsensical statements made. You can’t teach math, English and science in a middle-class white way. Just like you can’t teach chemistry in a low-class South East Asian way. Chemistry is chemistry regardless of who’s teaching it. Knowledge is knowledge. DEI and the ideology cult driving it, will not solve problems. You’ll just create them. Because you start with nonsensical and assumed premises. Your reading of disparate outcomes is incorrect. The variables you attribute to these outcomes are incorrect. And you as well as I do, preferential treatment is your solution. That is, let’s break down society into groups of assumed oppression, read every disparity as one pertaining to assumed racism and historical oppression, then balance the assumed oppression will overt preferential treatment. This is neo racism.

CRT is a fundamentally divisive ideology. It starts by dividing races against each other, saying that the issue is fundamentally about power, and from there, no one wins. The inclusive alternative says quite simply that we're all in this together, and that anyone, regardless of race, can become the best version of themselves through hard work, personal responsiblity, taking care of friends and family, and contributing to society. These are not values that belong to any race, but to all of us. As a conservative Republican, I find CRT to be nothing more than Marxism rehashed for race instead of class. And its divisive nature is obvious to most people, that is why it's so unpopular. The Great American Melting Pot and all it has to offer continues to be far more attracitve than the politics of power based on race. That is why CRT is so hard to explain, and the path to personal success that is open to any race continues to be such a strong and clear message.

I respect the intent of well meaning people. But the flaw in your entire philosophy is ragingly apparent, and yet you miss it. You continue to encourage those who are racial minorities to constantly make the issue race. Meanwhile successful groups, regardless of race, focus their children on success. Hard work. Waking up every day and doing the best you can no matter how limited your gifts or how much life might be stacked againt you. The massive energy that the well-meaning and left-leaning community puts into all these secondary issues, if redirected, could have a massively positive effect on actually solving the problem. It's not about white or black, nor about diversity, equity, and including. it's about focus. Hard work. Responsiblity. Showing up on time. Being a strong team player. Graduating high school. Holding down a job. Families and communities, that have an obsession with those values raise successful kids--regardless of race. The system absolutely is rigged--rigged toward those values! Raise kids with those, instead of constantly saying its a struggle against power, and you will help the kids be the best they can be. Making race the issue is the most destructive form of systemic racism there is.

Thank for a good CRT overview. I can you please review a Ryan Chapman video on Critical Race Theory. Also they are talking about CRT in UK. A Professor Aysha Khanom called a Black Commentator a "House N*" & "Coconut". After the University fired her, Khanom is suing the University for “discrimination against her belief in Critical Race Theory and Black Radicalism.” (And she is not Black. She is from Bangladesh). * Also if you have time, take a look at a documentary on RUclips called: "White Privilege Conference 2014".

Hi, Bill! Thank you for sharing! I have been teaching from home since March 2020. I would like to share tutorials to 2 free tools. Maybe some fellow teachers find them useful: TIP1: I have turned some worksheets into fillable PDF files using a free user-friendly online tool. I have created a tutorial for PDFescape and shared it with fellow teachers last year on my RUclips channel up2dateSKILLS. TIP 2: I was recently asked about forms with legally-binding eSignatures to get some paperwork signed by parents. I found another free tool for that and for eWorksheets too with PandaDoc. I've also SHARED a tutorial on mu channel. Once again, thank you for sharing!

It is too early as if this Wednesday to make a decision on the future of spring sports this year. Way to early. Evaluate in 2 weeks just like everybody else. Stop trying to be the first to make a ridiculous call and one you'll end up regretting. If it's not safe enough to have spring sports at all... it's not safe enough to be at school. A shortened season is still a season. Let us play.
